Pokalde peak climbing is one of the strenuous peaks for mountaineering located on the prominent Everest Base Camp route. However, the trails to the peak lay steep hikes despite having a comparatively lesser altitude than other summits. Equally, the climb to Pokalde Peak has the most relishing views to offer throughout the trekking trails.
Initially, trekkers fly to the Lukla Airport (2840) which is an adventure in itself on an 18-seater plane. The voyage begins on a foot towards Phakding (2610m). In fact, Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay walked through these trails to step on the world’s tallest mountain Mt. Everest. To the surprise, the trek is full of startling views of several snow-clad peaks, deep gorges, huge waterfalls, and the thrilling suspension and log bridges over burbling glaciers.
Similarly, the trails are also accompanied by rare flora and fauna such as rhododendron, mountain Monal – Danfe, musk deer, snow leopard, mountain goat, yak, and blue sheep. The trails are full of alpine and Rhododendron forest singing songs while wind clatters through leaves and sound of ice rending weakened woods, howling rivers and insects stridulate.
Further, the trails made of stone steps especially on the way to the infamous Namche Bazar followed by the Buddhist scriptures crafted on big rocks are incredible. Further, the path takes to the oldest monastery of the region with holy significance known as Tengboche Monastery and ascends to Kala Patthar (5550m) via Pangboche Monastery. Uniquely, the Kala Patthar provides a remarkable panoramic view of the giant Mt. Everest, Lobuche, Mahalangur Himalayan massif, and desert-like wide-spread terrain.
Finally, the trekkers trek to the Pokalde summit ascending a steep hike to the south of the Kangma La Pass (5171m). After reaching the peak, trekkers can delight in the spectacular views of Mt. Everest (8848m), Lhotse (8516m), Nuptse (7855m), Ama Dablam (6812), and several other snow-capped mountain peaks. After spending relishing time on the Pokalde peak, the trekkers descend back to Namche via Dingboche Monastery to retrace back to Kathmandu.
