Overview

Rolwaling Trekking is one of the most do and best treks in the Himalayan region without a doubt. Situated between the Everest and the Langtang ranges. Trekkers can enjoy breathtaking views of Mt. Everest, Mt. Gauri Shanker, Mt. Langtang, and Mt. Jugal Himal in the Rolwaling region. Until the 2015 earthquake, this was Nepal's only land route to Tibet. however, the border crossing has since been relocated to Kyirong, to the west. The 7000-meter range contains two summits that need challenging climbing. Menlungtse, at 7181m, and Gaurishankar, at 7143m. The region is perfect for thrill-seeking in the outdoors and spiritual yearning. It bestows inherent brightness and cultural exuberance. This region is home to numerous Nepalese ethnic tribes, including Brahmin, Lamas, Chhetris, Tibetans, and Sherpas. It is also a well-known trekking path, although due to its well-known difficulties, not many trekkers attempt it. In this exceptional area, you'll find a variety of strenuous yet accessible trekking paths.

The Rollwaling Trek is an extraordinary Himalayan adventure that takes trekkers through Nepal's remote and untouched region. Located in the eastern part of the country, the Rolwaling Valley is known for its stunning landscapes, ancient culture, and challenging yet rewarding trails.

This off-the-beaten-path trek offers a unique experience for adventurers looking to escape the crowds and immerse themselves in the tranquility of the Himalayas. The journey begins in Kathmandu, where trekkers will drive to the starting point of the trek in the village of Charikot. From here, the real adventure begins as you enter the mystical Rolwaling Valley.

The trek follows the Rolwaling River, offering mesmerizing views of the surrounding peaks and lush valleys. As you ascend, you'll pass through dense forests of rhododendron, pine, and oak, adding to the natural beauty of the route.

One of the highlights of the Rollwaling Trek is the encounter with local culture and hospitality. The valley is inhabited by Sherpa and Tamang groups that have maintained their distinctive customs and way of life for centuries. The trek's ascent to Tashi Lapcha Pass, located at an elevation of 5,755 meters (18,881 feet), is the most challenging phase. A high mountain pass connects the Rolwaling Valley with the Khumbu region, offering jaw-dropping views of Everest, Cho Oyu, and other peaks. The access is a thrilling experience for seasoned trekkers and mountaineers.

After conquering the Tashi Lapcha Pass, the trek descends to the Khumbu region, where you'll pass through villages like Thame and Namche Bazaar before reaching Lukla, the gateway to Mount Everest. From Lukla, a scenic flight back to Kathmandu concludes this epic Himalayan adventure.

Itineraries

  • 01, Arrival in Kathmandu (1337 meters, 4385 Ft)

    Your trip day starts today when you arrive at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu. Upon your arrival, you will be received by our representative at the airport. He will be carrying a signboard with our company’s name on it. Then you will be transferred to the tour hotel and checked in. A trip briefing will follow later today and the time will be notified to you by the representative who picks you up from the airport. We will come to meet and brief you about the trip at a fixed time. Until then just relax or explore a bit of the surrounding.

  • 02, Heritage Tour of Kathmandu.

    We take you for a day tour of cultural heritage monuments in Kathmandu valley after breakfast. The tour will give you a mixed insight of history, culture, art, architecture and spirituality of Kathmandu valley. The sites include; Swoyambhunath aka Monkey Temple: The oldest of all sites in Kathmandu valley, Swoyambhunath is an important Buddhist spiritual site having the history over two thousand years old. This site has gained a popular name as monkey temple as this small forested hill is a good habitat for hundreds of monkeys. The visit there will heighten your spiritual and cultural experience. Patan City including Patan Durbar Square: A tour of the medieval city of Patan gives you a great insight into ethnic Newari culture, Buddhist spirituality, religious harmony, art and architecture while you stroll around the charismatic alleys taking you to magnificent local community squares known as Bahal and eventually leading you to an incredible medieval palace square. The monuments and skill of the local artisans displayed on those monuments in the square will stun you with their unbelievable charm. Boudhanath Stupa: The largest of its kind in the world, this magnificent stupa is a very important centre of faith for the people following Tibetan Buddhism. This place is a nice Circular Square with a stunning stupa in the middle of it which spreads a lot of spiritual vibrations around the atmosphere.

  • 03, Journey to Chetchet and Trek to Simigaon (2037 Meter, 6681 Ft).

    On the third day of our adventure, we embark on an early morning departure from Kathmandu to initiate our drive towards Chetchet. This leg of the journey entails a picturesque 9-hour drive and around two hours of trekking that unveil stunning landscapes as we go. Crossing the Tamakoshi River is pivotal as we transition into the trekking phase. Our uphill trek leads us to Simigaon, where the welcoming comforts of a lodge greet us. The charming village of Simigaon sits at an altitude of 2036 meters. It serves as our sanctuary for the night, offering respite and the promise of the journey ahead. Overnight at Simi Gaon, B/L/D.

  • 04, Trekking to Dong-gang, (2795 Meters, 9167 Ft) 6. hours.

    Trekking to Dong-gang, 2795 Meter, 6. hours. Dawn breaks over Simigaon as we set forth on the fourth day, embarking on a trek that will lead us to Donggang. Our path takes us on a journey through the heart of the Rolwaling valley. The trail initially guides us downhill to the banks of the Rolwaling River, gradually transitioning into a steeper ascent as we approach Surmuche. From this point, our upward journey continues until we reach Kyalje, where a brief downhill trek guides us to our destination, Dong-gang. The day's effort is rewarded with the cozy amenities of a lodge, providing a comforting atmosphere. Overnight at Dong-Gang, B/L/D.

  • 05, Trek to Beding, (3745 Meters, 12283 Ft) around six hours of trekking.

    The trail calls us onward, and we heed its beckoning on this fifth day. Leaving Dong-gang, we trace a path along the Rolwaling River, winding our way through alpine forests that offer glimpses of the majestic Mount Chekigo in the distance. Crossing the Rolwaling River is greeted by the awe-inspiring presence of Gaurishankar, a sight that fills us with wonder. We pass through quaint winter settlements and finally find ourselves at the doorstep of Beding. Nestled at 3740 meters, Beding is our haven for the night, where a lodge provides shelter and sustenance B/L/D.

  • 06, Beding to Na Gaun (4180m 13710 Ft)


    Today, we have a short trek. The trail takes us to Na, a tiny alpine village only inhabited by a few herdsmen during the summer months. Na is located in a beautiful valley overlooked by some very impressive peaks with Chobutse (6685m) and Chugimago (6259m). We stay overnight at Na in a camp B/L/D.

  • 07, Acclimatization Day in Na Gaun

    This is a rest day as well as acclimatization day. So, we can either take a rest here or organise an excursion towards the Yalung La pass. In every direction we get a stunning view; eastwards the Yalung Glacier, the Ramdung Peak (5930m), the Yalung Ri (5630m) and to the north the summits of the Tibetan border. Overnight in camp

     

  • 08, Na Gaun to Nyiduk Kongma (4750m, 15581 Ft).

    The trail leads us up to the dam that holds back the Chho Rolpa Lake. The trail steps forward along the south bank through the ancient route following the northern bank and passing through a disordered moraine area. After a 6 to 7-hour trek, we set up our campsite in a sandy amphitheatre on the border, between the Tsho Rolpa and the Trakarding glaciers overnight at Nyiduk Kongma, B/L/D.

  • 09, Nyiduk Kongma to Drolumbau Glacier (5200m, 17056 Ft).

    Today the trail plunges towards the glacier. We struggle to walk on a rocky spur, just beneath the Dolumbau glacier, the large segments of bluish ice. It is now quite a venture to access the glacier. Then, we climbed up a rock face and set a rope for the porters, helping them to scramble up the 160m before accessing the campsite area. 

     

  • 10, Drolumbau Glacier to Tashi Lapsa (5755m) - (Camp at 5200m, 17056 Ft).

    After breakfast, the trail to get a foothold onto the Drolumbau glacier is tricky and fairly steep. We enjoy scenic mountain views on the way. Then the trek step on steadily through moraines and gentle slopes, crossing, from time to time, some glacial areas. After 7 hours adventure walk we will set up our camp about 100m below the Tashi Lapsa pass, just underneath an impressive rocky section coming down from the Tengi Ragi Tau.

  • 11, Camp at 5200m to Thame (3800m, 12465 Ft).

    This is an easy and pleasant descent. The trail follows eastwards over snow slopes and continues its long descent down the upper reaches of the Thame Khola to Thengpo, with excellent views of Mt.Ama Dablam, Mt.Makalu and Lumding Himal above the Thame Khola. Another two hours of gradual descent will bring us to the end of our walk for today at Thame Village. We visit an ancient picturesque monastery perched on the hillside. 

  • 12, Thame to Namche Bazar (3,430m, 11251 Ft)

    After breakfast, we walk down the river and then turn south towards Namche Bazaar through rhododendrons and juniper forest with isolated Sherpa village. The rest of the day we enjoy with tremendous mountain scenery in Namche Bazaar. Overnight in hotel

     

  • 13, Namche to Lukla.( 2860 m, 9383 Ft).

    The next morning we head for Lukla. During this day we see many new groups on the trail heading out to Namche. At a teahouse at Lukla we will toast over a beer on the success of our incredible trip we just finished and spend some time reflecting on our experiences. You'll have time to wander around the areas and your guide will re-confirm your flight ticket for Kathmandu.

     

  • 14, Fly back to Kathmandu. (1337m, 4385 Ft).

  • 15, Transfer to the Airport for your onward destination.

    Our guide will come to the hotel and transfer you to the International Airport for your departure flight to onward destination.  Note: The above itinerary can be customized according to client's preferences. If this itinerary needs to be customized please email us.
